A Little More Room (2015)
In Matt Ager’s practice, raw, rough and found remnants often form a starting point for his process of recomposing and reinventing, resulting in a collection of works which reveal his interest in a key question: what makes an object – or a collage of objects – a sculpture? As Ager explores function and non-function with A Little More Room, his work also hints at his wider interests particularly in the lo-fi vs hi-fi relationship when the hierarchy between materials becomes ambiguous. Whilst this work clearly indicates elements of novelty-value, it also points towards competent craftsmanship.
Matt Ager (b.1985, London) recently graduated from the Royal Academy Schools and recent exhibitions include: Sunday School #11 curated by Amanprit Sandhu (2015), Royal Academy Graduates Show, Royal Academy London (2015); Suzuki Montage, Space in Between (2015); Duck Rabbit, Anat Ebgi, LA (2014); Chromatic Leak, NAM Project, Milan (2014); Camel Blues, Kinman, London (2014); Wearing Potentiality (curated by Attilia Fattori Franchini), Paradise Row, London (2014); Premiums, Royal Academy Schools, London (2014); Open Cube (curated by Adriano Pedrosa), White Cube, London (2013).
